Self Defence

This, according to the increasingly unsettling Manchester City manager Mark Hughes, is the moment when:

Craig [Bellamy] just put a defensive hand out to push [a supporter invading the pitch] away

... at the recent Manchester derby. Really Mark? Hughes and Manchester City are lending their backing to Bellamy and have decided not to punish him after (it is alleged) he attacked a fan who encroached onto the field. The Times, however reports:

Bellamy is alleged to have told the man to “get off the f***ing pitch”. The supporter reportedly responded by telling Bellamy to “f*** off” which is when the Manchester City forward appeared to strike out.

and

TV replays show the Welshman advancing towards the melee and that the fan was being held by two stewards when Bellamy struck out.

Luckily, the FA and Greater Manchester Police are looking into the matter and it's possible that Hughes may be missing yet ANOTHER striker, following Adebayor's recent ban for stamping on van Persie's face (which Mark Hughes defended).

Maybe Mark Hughes should stop defending his thugs, stop moaning about "added time" and install some discipline in his players. Shame they didn't beat United though...
